A few months ago, not many country music fans knew who Randall King was. The indie artist was working hard in Nashville on his self-titled album and gearing up for his big musical debut. The world was finally able to hear what King has been working on a few weeks ago (April 27), and the feedback was absolutely incredible.

During an episode of Inside Studio G last week, country music legend Garth Brooks was asked which rising artist he’s really admiring. The answer? RANDALL KING.

“Everybody always asks me, ‘Who are the new people that you’re looking at coming up?’” Brooks said. “Guys, I’m gonna tell you right now. This kid right here. Randall King. All I can say is, sweet guy, good guy, hell of a songwriter — I think he just debuted this album. Independent artist. He’s not signed to a record label. This kid is what country music is all about to me. Randall King.”

After giving his album a spin, we instantly realized why King is the next “it guy” in country music. Resembling a young Josh Turner, his smooth and deep vocals make him appear poised to burst onto a scene hungry for the lived-in sound of classic country. In addition, he’s super easy on the eyes, making women swoon from coast to coast.

CS Country caught up with Randall recently to learn more about the writing, recording, and production behind Randall King. The rising country star also shared what he plans to conquer in 2018.

CS Country: Your self-produced and self-titled album is finally here! What are you most excited for about the release?

Randall King: “Having brand new music out there for my fans, it’s been a long time comin’. We’ve taken our time with this record and made sure that each song was the best it could be.”

What was it like producing your own record?

Randall King: “I was nervous at first, but the studio musicians I was working with are pros and made it so much easier. Plus I have the best team a young artist could ask for and they believed in me and were behind me the whole way so that gave me all the more confidence.”

What was the most challenging aspect of putting this record together?

Randall King: “I would say song selection. There were still about three or four songs that didn’t make the record that I absolutely love, they just didn’t quite fit for this project.”

What are your top three favorite songs off of it and why?

Randall King: “”Keep Her On The Line,” “When He Knows Me,” and “Takin’ Me A Heartbreak.” “Keep Her” is just straight country, I love everything about that song. “When He Knows Me” was written about my grandfather, I miss him dearly every day. I can’t hardly listen or play that song without tearing up. And “Takin’ Me A Heartbreak” is just strong, and bold. When that chorus hits I  can’t help but get excited every time.”

Why should people listen to this album?

Randall King: “Well it’s always at the fans’ discretion, but if you’re a fan of 90’s / early 2000’s country, you’ll enjoy this record. That was the era I grew up in and it’s what made me the artist I am today.”

What makes you different from other country artists?

Randall King: “I’d say the things I write about and my sound separate me. I take it to heart to make sure every song has my personality in it. There’s a lot of humor and a lot of seriousness within my writing and I think that reflects who I am.”

What are some of your goals for the rest of 2018?

Randall King: “Honestly, my biggest goal is to continue to create songs that I love that can connect to fans. They make us who we are and I love seeing the way they react to my songs, whether they are fun, sad, or just a down home drinkin’ tune, and as a writer you always strive to continue making the best work you can.”

Since we are Celeb Secrets Country, what is a secret about the album that people would not know from just listening to it?

Randall King: “”Freightline” is a song a wrote for my father, if it wasn’t for his old 80’s model Freightliner and takin’ me with him while he worked, I wouldn’t have grown up as the fan of country music that I am today.”
