Christina Taylor is a name that you’ll be hearing more of in your near future.

The country songstress just dropped her debut EP That Girl this year, and its already getting some notoriety from country music heavyweights. CMT dubs Taylor a “Discovery Artist” and plays the music video for “Don’t Look Good In Your T-Shirt Anymore,” while Radio Disney Country has both “Don’t Look Good…” and “That Girl” on rotation.

For every song written and produced, there’s always an interesting backstory behind it. After listening to each track off the EP, we knew that Christina’s were no different. When we sat down with the budding artist, we had her break down all five tracks, explaining the meaning of each and why she wanted to include them in her debut extended play.

If you like what you hear and in Music City soon, make sure to stop by the Sutler Saloon. Christina has a coveted residency at the famous venue, where she performs songs off the record regularly.

TRACK 1 – “If It Ain’t One Thing”

Life is hard sometimes. Actually, life is hard almost all of the time and if you think about it too much it can make life seem impossible. My goal with “If It Ain’t One Thing” was to get across to people that it’s the same for everyone! Life is never going to be perfect or easy, and you just have to take it one step at a time and try to be as optimistic as possible. There is always an up side to every situation, even if it doesn’t seem like it in the moment.

TRACK 2 – “Don’t Look Good In Your T-Shirt Anymore”

When you’re in love with somebody, you wear their t-shirt and feel like the most beautiful person in the world. But when that love is lost, the shirt just doesn’t make you feel like it used to. I wrote this song while I was going through my first real heart break. I had to get rid of all of his baggage, including the favorite t-shirt of his I used to wear. We weren’t in love anymore and the shirt just didn’t seem to fit the way it used to.

TRACK 3 – “That Girl”

“That Girl” was the first song I wrote when I came to Nashville. I was going through my first break up and definitely had a lot to say. Sometimes you get so caught up in a person that they start being the only thing you think about. You know they’ve done you wrong, and you become paranoid. I think everyone can be a little crazy in a relationship sometimes, I’m just not afraid to admit it. I wanted “That Girl” to be an anthem for girls. I wanted to say, “This may be where you are right now, but you can get back to being the strong and independent woman you once were.” The song is just so powerful that I had to make it the title track of my EP.

TRACK 4 – “Love On The Rocks”

Sometimes you get to the point in a relationship where you know it’s going to end soon and the only way you can tolerate each other is with some help from your favorite wine or liquor. “Love On The Rocks” talks about your last night out with your soon to be ex boyfriend. We explained the different phases of a break up through the different types of alcohol you drink. There’s a point in a break up where you want to cry, that’s where the wine comes in, and there’s a point where you want to dance and party to forget about it all and that’s where tequila and sangria come to the rescue. This song gives a light and fun take on a break up.

TRACK 5 – “Love Is The Reason”

Love is the reason for a lot of things that happen in this world. Love can even be the reason you hate someone. It’s the reason you leave and the reason you come back. I wanted to make sure people understood that love is never easy, and usually the hardest loves are the truest loves. So if you truly love someone, you will never really be able to walk away. You’ll always find your way back.
