Tucker Beathard‘s music video for his brand new single “Better Than Me” is finally here and it’s showing fans a side of him that’s not usually showcased while onstage.
The playful narrative puts Beathard’s more mischievous, sarcastic personality on display as he takes on the role of an ex-boyfriend attempting to sabotage his former girl’s new relationship.
Directed by Justin Clough, the video draws from Beathard’s 90’s rock influences with a tongue-in-cheek delivery reminiscent of bands the lead guitarist/drummer grew up on like Blink 182, Green Day and Foo Fighters.
“I’ve always tried to portray a different perspective on the song through a video, and it was kind of tough with this song to figure out what we wanted to do with it to make it different,” Beathard tells Celeb Secrets Country at his music video release party yesterday at The Loft @ South x Sea in Nashville.
He continues, “It’s got hints of seriousness, angst and sarcasm, so we really milked the sarcasm side to shed light on a whole different side of the song. I felt myself and had fun filming it, so now when you watch the video, that’s probably what’s going to be in people’s heads now. They’re not going to take it as serious as the video will show.”
The first country artist to release a debut double album, Beathard’s first installment, Nobody’s Everything, was immediately praised as Beathard pours his heart out on the vulnerable collection. “Better Than Me” is taken from the second installment of his debut double album, which will be released on Warner Music Nashville very soon.
“I’ll be playing shows these next couple of months while releasing music that hints at the second half of my double debut album. ‘Better Than Me’ is out on country radio and I’m working really hard on new music. I’m just so excited about releasing the second half of my debut album and can’t wait for people to hear it.”
