Not too long ago, we named Smithfield one of our ten unsigned artists to watch in 2018, saying that this year was going to be their year. Fast forward two weeks and band members Jennifer Fielder and Trey Smith are definitely living up to our word as their single “Hey Whiskey” is finally impacting country radio!

The charming duo made the announcement during their special show at 3rd and Lindsley on Thursday (January 11) in Nashville. They have had this ballad in their repertoire for the past four years and it has been such an incredible journey to arrive at this point.

“Four years ago we wrote a song called “Hey Whiskey.” We took it in to our label at the time and were told it was ‘too dark and too depressing.’ We eventually put it in our live show and the fans connected to it instantly so when we got the chance to make our record, we had to put the song on it. This time last year we were on this very stage and we toasted with all of you because SiriusXM The Highway picked it up, Spotify was supporting it, and CMT had it in rotation. The song took on a life of its own and before we knew it everyone was singing along to it at our shows,” the Texas bred twosome shared onstage.

“We are so excited to announce tonight that we are taking this monster to country radio in 2018! We want more and more people to be touched by it because music is supposed to make you feel something and as songwriters and artists, that is all we have ever wanted to accomplish.”

Smithfield will be taking this opportunity to go on their debut radio tour while opening for Granger Smith on his 2018 tour. Jennifer and Trey are unbelievably driven and talented. We see this being a huge year not only for “Hey Whiskey,” but Smithfield as a whole.
