Nashville’s all-female singer/songwriter showcase, Song Suffragettes, featuring Kalie Shorr, Lacy Cavalier, Lena Stone and others, brings a distinct take on Keith Urban’s highly-deliberated song “Female,” with a powerful cover video.
The group has partnered with LiveYourDream.org, aligning with their own motto #LetTheGirlsPlay, to encourage the support of females from all walks of life.
“When I first heard the song, I was really emotionally impacted by its message,” co-producer and Song Suffragette Kalie Shorr explains. “Keith is so vocal about supporting the women in country music but he also actually DOES something about it. I have so much respect for him. I’m so happy with the group of girls who came together for this video and I’m so proud of the final product. They are all incredible musicians and making music with your friends is always so fun; but what made this really special is that the success of this video is shared success and we all get to celebrate together. We believe that all ships rise and this is such a great example of how women can support each other which is what Song Suffragettes and #LetTheGirlsPlay is all about.”
This inspiring cover of “Female” comes at a time when voices of advocacy are needed the most, joining the conversation of gender inequality and sexual assault in the entertainment industry. The video has received praise-worthy media attention, including a Twitter shout out from Urban himself.

Since releasing their version of “Female” last Wednesday, there have been over 75,000 combined views of the video. This intense interest prompted Song Suffragettes to rush to make the song available on all streaming platforms and available for purchase digitally on iTunes with all proceeds benefiting LiveYourDream.org.
