Singer/songwriter Lena Stone has spent the last year really evolving her sound.

Since the release of her self-titled debut EP last May, Lena has teamed up with some of her favorite songwriters in Nashville to create music she feels people of all ages can relate to.

CS Country sits down with Lena to talk about the writing process for this new project and how she feels this EP differs from the first.

Celeb Secrets Country: Tell us about the new music you’re working on.

Lena Stone: “I’m working on a new project with a brand new producer, his name is Dave Binder, and I’m SO excited. I loved my last EP, I feel like that was a really great introduction to me as an artist. But, I’m really excited to push some boundaries a little bit more on this new set of songs. Content wise, it’s a little bit more grown up, it’s a little sassier with a bit more edge to it, but it’s still got that sing-a-long vibe to it. What I really like about [this project] is it’s not a ton of relationship songs. It’s a lot more life stuff, because I feel like that’s where I’m at right now. I’m in my mid-twenties, and I’m figuring [life] out, and this is what it sounds like! I’m really excited to talk about things other than boys.”

CSC: Talk about the writing process for this project compared to the last EP.

Lena Stone: “Everyone always says ‘you have your entire life to write for your first project’, so a lot of those songs were four years old by the time I released them. The tracks [for the new project] were all written in the last year, so their all a lot more relevant to what’s going on in my life right now. Also, I wrote with a lot of different people for this project, so I feel like it has the voices of everyone I love making music with on it. When I think about the writing process of this project, it was just really fun.”

CSC: Do you have a favorite track on this new project?

Lena Stone: “I’m not really allowed to talk about what songs will make the EP yet, but I will say there is one track that is kind of my feminist anthem that I’m really excited about, and it’s also pretty funny. I’ve played it at a bunch of writers rounds, and there’s one line in the chorus that gets a laugh [from the audience] every time.”

CSC: Since we’re Celeb Secrets Country, is there any secrets you can share from the recording or writing process from the EP that you can share with us?

Lena Stone: During every vocal session, I’ve worn my lucky sweater- which is a hand-me-down from my grandma’s wardrobe in the 80’s. She’s the reason I do music, and is my hero!
