What could be better than having a No. 1 hit? How about writing a song for your elementary school sweetheart, marrying her, and then having the song become a No. 1 hit!
Scotty McCreery is living the dream! Friends, family, fellow songwriters, and McCreery’s beautiful wife Gabi gathered at the ASCAP headquarters on famous Music Row in downtown Nashville to celebrate his No. 1 hit “This Is It.” To make the news even more exciting, this was McCreery’s second consecutive No. 1 off his Seasons Change album.

“If you had told me a couple years ago we’d be here, I would have told you [that] you were crazy. It has been an incredible feeling and an incredible ride,” McCreery shared to a room full of supporters. He went on to thank his wife, Gabi, who was the muse for the song.
“It is easy to write love songs about you baby… appreciate you marrying me and saying yes, otherwise this song might not have made it on the radio. ’This Is Not It’ is not a great title,” the singer-songwriter joked.
Along with McCreery, ‘This Is It’ was written by Aaron Eshuis and Frank Rogers. Eshuis, who was also recently married and going through similar newlywed feelings, made it easy for the two to bounce personal yet universally relatable songwriting ideas off of each other.
“There were a few moments when we were writing it that we were sort of walking this line a little bit of super personal things that make the song special and then also bringing in some more universal things and it becomes more relatable. We tried to capture the emotion. I’ve just recently gotten married and so I was feeling a lot of the same things and could relate to Scotty as well in that way so we kind of ended up bouncing off experiences a little bit and found a way to write it where it was personal and also relatable.” Eshuis explained.

And if it couldn’t get any sweeter, the music video for “This Is It” features footage from McCreery’s wedding, allowing the newlyweds to share yet another uniquely special moment watching it together for the first time. Spoiler Alert: if you’re wondering whether he tears up during the “first look” the answer is YES and it beyond adorable!
“We were on our honeymoon in Bora Bora when we got the first cut back for the video so we went inside and checked it out and it was amazing. It was like reliving our big day. We only had a couple of edits but mostly it was great. It’s still fun to just watch the video again and kind of see what grandma or our friends were doing. It was very special.” McCreery told Celeb Secrets.
Understandably so, the song has a brought in a TON of wedding appearance requests for Scotty, and he’s witnessed the personal effect the song has had on fans while on the road.
“‘This Is It’ is definitely the hot one of the show. Couples are kissing, it’s just really sweet to look out on it. That’s the coolest thing for me. Whenever I have a song that’s personal and then folks tell me, ‘hey this is going to be our first-dance song’ or ‘this is what we’re walking down the aisle to’, you’re like ‘holy cow, it’s so cool music has that effect!’ It’s that powerful and people are connecting to it like they are. We get about 10 or 15 requests for me to sing at weddings every day because of ‘This Is It” and I wish I could make them all, but thank you for thinking about the song in general and for listening.” McCreery shared.
