Life has been full of change in all the right ways for one of country music’s favorite bands and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. LANCO just released their fiery new single “Rival” from their upcoming sophomore album, are two-time ACM nominees including Group of the Year and New Group/Duo of the Year, and just wrapped up their very first headlining tour (Hallelujah Nights Tour) selling out shows all across the US!
Written on the back of a tour bus by band members Tripp and Brandon, the powerful anthem “Rival” is all about being proud of who you are, where you come from, and using your “rivals” as motivation. As with everything they do, it’s most important for LANCO to connect with their fans and be as relatable as possible.
“A big thing that you discover as an artist, especially going on to a second record, your life does change. You spend a lot more time on the road, on a tour bus, or backstage, and it’s still finding the things that are going on in your life that other people can relate to,” the band said at a media session in Nashville. “No matter what anyone’s going through or whatever they do for work, it’s important to tell people you matter and you’re important. Be proud of who you are and where you come from. Go do what you want in life. If there’s anyone who wants to stand in your way, that’s alright, that’s just reality; chalk them up as a rival and use them as motivation. I think with any song you want to think of an idea that a lot of people can relate strongly to and it kind of met that qualification.”
While the group of young men live a life of fame, fortune, boats and jet skis (they were exceptionally excited about the boats and jet skis) they haven’t always had the glamor of success. It wasn’t too long ago that they were sharing a 2 bedroom house, barely scraping by to make the rent. Band member Brandon had to sublease his bedroom and sleep on the couch due to being unable to pay his share of $150 a month! Going from band practice in a warehouse to headlining their very own nationwide tour with sold out crowds, the Hallelujah Nights Tour has to be the one of the most special milestones in the group’s career.
“It was amazing just to be playing shows every night in these beautiful theaters and really awesome rock clubs and filling them out. People are singing not only our singles but are singing along to track 7 of the record. It was one of the most fulfilling things that we’ve gotten to do yet. We really loved our tour, we loved all the shows, we loved the fact that we opened up for other people in those venues and we got to come back and headline them,” the guys said.
“It’s also the first time we got to have our own stage, in the sense of ‘this is our show, front to back, this is our time, this is our set,'” they continued. “We can design an experience for people more than just ‘what can you fit into an opening slot or fit onto a stage at a festival.’ We get to design our live show and how the dynamics will be for the set. That’s such a big element to us… our show and our live element of how we display the song to people and the experience we provide for them. So getting to deign that exactly how we want it, get comfortable with it, and then just enjoy for the whole tour was really incredible.”
Congrats LANCO on all the amazing success! You can listen to “Rival” below and watch the guys perform at the 54th Academy of Country Music Awards this Sunday, April 7th @ 8PM ET/PT on CBS.
