After being stripped of her dreams due to the global Coronavirus nearly three years ago, Kalsey Kulyk is back on top with her newest album Outlaw Poetry.
Outlaw Poetry, which is officially out on music streaming platforms beginning today (February 23), is a traditional county album that Kulyk hopes will “throw the listener in an old school western story that they relate to in their own personal experiences.”
“Honestly, it feels incredible!” Kulyk tells Celeb Secrets Country in an exclusive interview regarding its release. “This album has seen a lot of work, tears, dreaming and love! It’s a culmination of songwriting over the last 10 years and the fruits of mine and my teams labor showing off! I am so excited to have this out in the world after starting the process back in late 2021.”
The record features her latest single “Love Me Like An Outlaw,” which climbed the charts on Canadian Country Radio and ultimately landing in the Top 20. Revealing that the song really helped give her career the boost it needed, Kalsey says that she’s “still in shock” about its rapid success.
“‘Love Me Like an Outlaw’ was a really special song I was holding onto for a very long time. It was a song I knew I had to record from the moment it was finished. When we released it just as a streaming song, the numbers behind it didn’t lie. It hit the ground running at radio and didn’t stop. It was the little engine that could. I’m really proud of it!” she shares.
Celeb Secrets Country sits down with Kalsey (virtually) to learn more about her musical journey, everything regarding her new album Outlaw Poetry, and what we can expect from her for the rest of the year. She even spills some secrets behind her new single “Love Me Like an Outlaw,” which are ones you certainly can’t miss!

Celeb Secrets Country: We’d love to know more about your story, as we know it’s an interesting one. Can you tell us more about how the pandemic affected your career and how you stayed motivated to get to where you are now?
Kalsey Kulyk: “The pandemic really affected my career! I was just starting to build a buzz down in Nashville, had a record and publishing deal down there, and that all was pretty much taken away. So my husband and I moved back to Canada and decided to help ourselves by starting to build a van with a stage on the roof to put on outdoor shows all across Canada. We booked about 40 shows and we got to play about 25 of those all across Canada before lockdowns became more strict (we couldn’t finish the tour). So I decided to start working on a record to release!”
CSC: Your new album Outlaw Poetry is officially here. How does it feel knowing that the project you’ve worked so hard on is finally out for people to hear?
KK: “Honestly, it feels incredible! This album has seen a lot of work, tears, dreaming and love! It’s a culmination of songwriting over the last 10 years and the fruits of mine and my teams labor showing off! I am so excited to have this out in the world after starting the process back in late 2021.”
CSC: What was the process like for you making this new record? Can you tell us who or what may have inspired its sound and storytelling?
KK: “It was a really exciting process recording the record! We did it in intervals. Recording the first two songs, then three more a few months later and then 3 more a little while later and then one more to add one last piece of the puzzle that was missing. It really was inspired by the music I’ve been wanting to create for 10 years. All the songs I’ve loved and kept in my pocket for a long time, just waiting on the perfect moment…”
CSC: With that being said, what is the story you are trying to tell with Outlaw Poetry?
KK: “Outlaw Poetry is really just a country album through and through. I’m hoping it throws the listener in an old school western story that they relate to in their own personal experiences.”
CSC: What is your proudest moment from making this project?
KK: “So far, I think the success of the single ‘Love Me Like an Outlaw.’ That song has done so much for me being an independent female in country music. I’m still shocked about it, to be honest!”
CSC: We know your single “Love Me Like An Outlaw” is climbing the charts on Country Radio — can you tell us more about that song in particular and what made you want to choose it as your latest single?
KK: “‘Love Me Like an Outlaw’ was a really special song I was holding onto for a very long time. It was a song I knew I had to record from the moment it was finished. When we released it just as a streaming song, the numbers behind it didn’t lie. It hit the ground running at radio and didn’t stop. It was the little engine that could. I’m really proud of it!”
CSC: How does “Love Me Like An Outlaw” set the precedent for all of this new music that’s out right now?
KK: “Well, it definitely gives the album a great platform and I know it will shine a great light on the rest of the record.”
CSC: Do you have any plans to bring your new music on the road? If so, what can you tease?
KK: “Almost all of the songs on this record are gonna be in the live show! My set this year is really gonna take the fans on a fun ride!”
CSC: What are some goals (professionally or personally) that you’d like to achieve for 2024?
KK: “I want this record to do better than any other I’ve released. And so far, it has, with the three current singles off of it that I’ve released! I want to play more shows this year than I have in any other previous year, and that’s looking to be the case. And hopefully sign a new publishing deal down in Nashville. I also want to be able to travel more with my family and make new memories!”
CSC: Since we’re Celeb Secrets, do you have any secrets about yourself and making the album that we wouldn’t know just by listening to it?
KK: “Some of the writers on the single have written hits for Luke Combs and Kenny Chesney! It’s a really cool bullet point to have!”
