On Thanksgiving Day, we saw how music and sports can come together to form lively performances. It was entertainment on another level when Luke Combs opened with his song “When it Rains it Pours,” followed by “Beautiful Crazy,” and around him were the beautiful Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders tearing it up with their energetic dance routines.
Country music is part of American culture and has been entwined with US sports for years. It stands to reason that some artists will be sports fans themselves, and ardently follow their team. So if you’ve ever wondered who your favorite country star follows, read on because we are about to cover that in this article.
Chris Young supports the Tennessee Titans
In 2006, Chris Young was the Season 4 winner of the TV program Nashville Star. He went on to become a Multi-platinum RCA Records entertainer and sang numerous hit songs like “Tomorrow,” which hit No 1., “Voices,” and “The Man I Want to Be,” among others. When he is not singing, the “Nashville Star” and Tennessee native enjoys rooting for his favorite sports team, the Tennessee Titans, and told a source, “It’s the hometown team, got to root for them.’’ Young expresses his personal connection to the franchise as it is rooted to where he was born.
Blake Shelton supports the Arizona Cardinals
Blake Shelton is arguably one of the best country singers today. In 2001, he made his debut with the song “Austin,” which remains a classic, and went on to sing many more big hits like “The Baby,” and “God Gave Me You.” This native of Oklahoma also enjoys sports and his favorite team is the Arizona Cardinals. Shelton has been a fan of the team since the mid-1990s and is sometimes seen showing his support by wearing team gear. However, his success in country music is unlikely to be matched by his favorite sports team. They’re outsiders for Super Bowl LVII in the latest NFL odds from Ladbrokes and they’re unlikely to replicate their 2008 Super Bowl XLIII appearance. Nevertheless, Shelton is a faithful supporter of the franchise and has even become personal friends with Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald.
Carrie Underwood supports the Nashville Predators
In 2005, Carrie Underwood won the fourth season of American Idol. She went on to become a renowned country singer with famous songs like “All-American Girl,” which was based on her own personal life, “Cowboy Casanova,” and “Blown Away.” The American Idol Winner also follows winning sports teams like the NHL’s Nashville Predators. Underwood doesn’t just cheer for the team, she is their #1 fan and shows up to the games decked out in a Preds jersey and waves a Preds flag as she shouts for the their win. Not to mention, she is the proud wife of the Predators team captain, Mike Fisher.
Cole Swindell supports the Atlanta Braves
Cole Swindell is a well-known country singer who was born and raised in Georgia, and matriculated at Georgia Southern University. He sang a number of great songs, like “Chillin’ It,” and “Hope You Get Lonely Tonight,” which earned him his 2nd number one on the US Billboard Country Airplay chart. As a native of Georgia, he naturally loves his home and that also goes for his home team, the MLB’s Atlanta Braves. A source reported that Swindell compared his excitement for watching a Brave’s game to waking up as a kid for school when you know you’re going on a fun field trip. Rightfully so, as the Atlanta Braves are the reigning World Series champion this year and may be the first team to win the World Series titles back-to-back since the New York Yankees.
Just like us, country music stars enjoy sports and show support to their beloved team in various ways. It is fun to know that you and your favorite country music start support the same team, or you can even be supporting rival teams. Either way, you can also express your support to your favourite team, just like these stars.
