Country music star Granger Smith surprised fans when he shared his upcoming career news.
Smith took to Instagram on Sunday (Feb. 13) to let fans and followers know that after hours of work he will be making his film debut in the upcoming film Moonrise.
“And…that’s a wrap!,” The singer wrote on his Instagram. “I haven’t talked much about it, but this movie is finally finished filming. I spent about a month in Blanco, TX with some incredibly talented actors & crew pouring a lot of hours and a completely different side of my creative brain into this character.”

According to Smith, the film is “about a country singer who lost his wife and struggles to find purpose, redemption, forgiveness, embrace fatherhood, faith and ultimately the ability to love again.”
Although this film seems to focus on deep and touching messages that many first time actors might find challenging, Smith said he remembers feeling how special this film was when he first heard about it.
“I remember getting this script back in Nov and I read the entire thing in one sitting on the porch swing. It’s special. I’ve never acted in this way, but I fell in love with the character and knew that I had to do it…or at least give it my best shot.”
The “Happens Like That” singer went on to say that along with his acting debut, he is also working hard on the movie’s soundtrack.

“In this pic is Vickie, our wonderful director and writer. She’s probably telling me like she always did, “You got this.” I didn’t always believe that…but I trusted her vision.
I’ll circle back when we get closer to a release date later this year. In the meantime, I’m writing like crazy for the soundtrack named after the title: Moonrise. Stay tuned!”
Although there is not much known about the film yet, Smith was quick to tell fans that he intends to keep them posted on any new updates.
