Mickey Guyton is truly a trailblazer in country music, as she is always shifting the industry In the right direction or conveying a vital message through her songwriting. At the 2020 ACMs, she was the very first black female to perform solo. Now, we have our first black country artist hosting the show. During the eventful night, Guyton performed her single “Hold On,” which has been included on the soundtrack of the faith-based movie Breakthrough.

“I wrote this next song as a prayer when faced with pain and uncertainty,” says Guyton before she began to sing the beautiful ballad. “I hope it inspired you to hold on.”

The influential musician was dressed to the nines in a breathtaking ethereal blue gown. She sang alongside of her band, who was seen masked up and 6 feet apart to adhere to CDC guidelines. As she showcased her powerful vocals, the academy made it seem like she was singing on cloud nine as they flooded the stage with smoke.

Unfortunately, the “Black Like Me” artist lost in the “New Female Artist” category to Gabby Barrett, but her career is only going up from here!
