As you all know, Dan + Shay dropped their brand new single “Tequila” last week. The new track is SUCH a bop, and not surprisingly, has dominated the music charts.
The song ascended immediately to No. 1 on the iTunes U.S. Country Singles chart and remains Top 10 All-Genre, hitting as high as No. 5 over the weekend. It debuted at No. 15 on the Shazam country charts and snagged a spot in the all-genre Top 200. In less than a week, “Tequila” has sold nearly 20,000 tracks in the U.S. alone and boasts over 1 million on-demand streams, topping Spotify’s Hot Country playlist. The song also sits at No. 10 on Spotify’s US Viral 50 and No. 15 on the Global Viral 50. All before officially going for adds at country radio today, where it amassed nearly 60 total stations in its first week.
“The response to ‘Tequila’ has been absolutely incredible,” said band member Dan Smyers. “We knew the song was special, but to see it have such an impact, this early on, has been so exciting to watch. We easily have the best fans on the planet! Cheers to more ‘Tequila!’”
In addition to its success in the United States, “Tequila” has quickly begun spilling into countries across the globe. The reflective single hit No. 1 on the iTunes country charts in the U.K. and Ireland, also reaching No. 4 in Australia.
Dan + Shay are currently in the studio working on their highly-anticipated third studio album, expected for release later this year. Fans can catch the duo live this summer as they join Rascal Flatts on their Back To Us Tour.
