Hot, new, dynamic sister duo Presley & Taylor were in full swing this week as participants in Country Radio Seminar 2017 held at the Omni Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee.
Celebrating and touting the release of their new single titled “This Phone,” the Presley & Taylor original is the lead track from the pair’s high-anticipated sophomore CD expected this spring and the teenagers’ fifth career single.
“We’re actually creating a new EP right now, and I would definitely say the sound goes back to traditional country sound but with completely modern content and lyrics and concepts that everyone can relate to now,” Taylor told us during our interview at CRS.
“Our record has been in the works for a while now, so you put everything into that and it’s definitely changed a lot. Our voices have changed, our sound is developing as well,” Presley adds.
“It definitely sounds familiar, like the music sounds familiar,” she continues. “It’s something people recognize and be like, “wait, I know that,” and then they listen to it and like the words are something that people can relate to who are our age too; who may not have that background in more of a real country sound, but they’ll be able to relate to it because of what we’re saying.”
In addition to chatting with us, the sister duo opened the Fresh On The Row Show held at the Listening Room on Wednesday (2/22) and closed out the week’s schedule with a special performance at the Thursday Night Throwdown on 2/23. Aside from the upcoming record and CRS, the girls have a lot of projects lined up that country music fans should look forward to.
“This year is going to be such a great year. We have some shows coming up and we’re kind of touring around for a bit. We’ll also be doing some listener appreciation concerts for different radio stations. We’re very busy and excited about everything that’s coming up this year!” Presley said.
For those of you who don’t know, Presley & Taylor are a sister duo that embrace the sound of stone cold country music and traditions, while adding a whimsical charm with their absolute vocals and impeccable harmonies, and song content created with meaning and substance.
“We’ve been singing together ever since we were little, but professionally, we started this three years ago. We went into the recording studio for the first time with our family and we just were bit by the bug. We fell in love with it and just snowballed. It just kept going!” Taylor said.
The teenage sisters’ first two singles “Looking For A Cowboy” and “Kickin’ Back” achieved Top 40 chart status and their third single “While You Were Gone” ranked at No. 30 on the national MusicRow Country Breakout Chart. Keeping the upward momentum, their fourth single “My Hometown topped out at No. 25.
“The biggest thing we had to overcome as a duo was going from being kids where you sing for fun to singing to make this a career and making it sound good together, like playing off each other,” Presley says. “It’s a lot of work, and I think it was hard to make that shift at first; and our parents were big about that— about like, “you got to practice, you got to work together,” and I think it would be easier if we had been individually singing or whatever and we would’ve been come into our own— but, we had to come into our own together at the same time. So, I think that was definitely kind of a challenge at first. But, I mean now the work is paid off and we sing great together now (laughs).”
