Sam Hunt is paying homage to the important women in his life who have helped shape him into the man he is today.

The country superstar released his brand new single titled “Women In My Life” last Friday (May 12), just in time for people to play the heartfelt song for the leading ladies in their lives on Mother’s Day, which was this past Sunday (May 14).

“I’ve been trying to stick to my plan of putting out a song every couple of months and [‘Women In My Life’] was missing a second verse about a month ago,” Sam tells Celeb Secrets Country host Juliet Schroder backstage at the 2023 iHeartCountry Festival in Austin, Texas on Saturday (May 13). “But I thought… ‘Mother’s Day is coming up, so let me see if we can get this finished and out.’ So we sat down, wrote a second verse, recorded it and got it out just in time.”

Written by Zach Crowell, Ashley Gorley, and Josh Osborne, the song has been receiving an overwhelming amount of positive feedback, including a seal of approval from both Sam’s mom Joan and his wife, Hannah Lee Fowler.

“I sent the song to my mom about a week ago and I rarely send her songs,” he recalls with a smile. “I told her she was getting exclusive access because she’s my biggest fan. She loves to send emojis, so I got a message back with like ten emojis to then tell me that she cried when she listened to it. I’m glad that she approved of it.”

It’s been a busy time for the five-time GRAMMY nominee, as he just performed a tribute for Willie Nelson, who was honored with the LBJ Liberty & Justice for All Award down in Austin on Friday (May 12) before performing a 20-minute set during the iHeartCountry Festival at the Moody Center on Saturday (May 13).

Of the experience, Hunt tells Celeb Secrets, “It was amazing. Willie is the last of a kind and his era of country music is one that we all as fans and performers look at as a golden time. His authenticity, his songwriting… we all try and kind of imitate it, but to be honest, none of us can do it like him. I played a couple songs and I had a great time, but they set a great example for us artists who are trying to aspire to be like them.”

He’s also gearing up to become a father of two while in and out of rehearsals for his headlining Summer on the Outskirts Tour which opens on July 6th in Hartford, Connecticut.

“We’re fired up,” Hunt says of his upcoming dates with Brett Young and Lily Rose. “I’ve been touring several years but I really find that last year we found how to do it right and not wear yourself out. We found the line between eating healthy and not eating healthy, when to not have that extra beer, when to go to sleep, and when you find that cool place to go out and smell the roses, so I feel like this summer’s run will be the best one yet.”

As to where he wants to explore, the “House Party” singer says, “I love the American West, so anytime we are out there I bring my fishing rod and my fly rod to try and do some fishing. My wife likes to hike so we’ve been thinking about pulling a Jeep or getting one of those mini camper vans to do some road tripping in between. We made those plans before she was expecting another baby so we’ll see how she feels about that.

When it comes to new music, Sam tells Celeb Secrets Country that fans shouldn’t expect a full-length project anytime soon, as releasing one song at a time seems to work better for his career in the long run.

“I’ve been trying to write new songs in between raising and making babies,” he laughs. “I’m really trying to just get them out one at a time as opposed to putting a whole album together and that seems to be working a lot better for me. I’m playing into my strengths and keeping my tasks small and easy to accomplish.”
