Over the last few years, we’ve seen a capella group Home Free‘s musical style evolve from incredibly catchy covers of our favorite songs to a new sub genre of country music which is in a league of its own.
The band is set to release their fifth studio album in September called Dive Bar Saints, and while the majority of the tracks are originals, there are a few covers in the mix, bringing the guys back to their roots. One of those tracks is the John Denver‘s classic “Take Me Home, Country Road,” which the guys released a music video for.
The clip, which was filmed just south of Nashville, sees the acclaimed quintet soulfully singing along to the iconic tune. Each member puts his own twist on the classic, resulting in the magical harmonies that Home Free has become known for over the years.
“Over the years, this has been one of our most requested songs, by far,” says bass Tim Foust. “We’ve wanted to perform it for what feels like forever, but with it being such an iconic tune, we also wanted the arrangement to be as close to perfect as possible. It took a little while, but when we finally figured it out and landed on this version, it felt too special not to include in the album.”
We had the chance to see the guys perform “Take Me Home, Country Roads” as well as original songs from Dive Bar Saints at a special party during the 2019 CMA Music Festival earlier this summer. Taking place at Springwater — aka the oldest dive bar in Nashville — the guys were joined by their biggest “Home Fries” (which is what they call their fans, BTW) while exploring the ins and outs of the upcoming record. It’s definitely one you’re not going to want to miss!
