We’re only twelve days into the new year and already found a new act that has us hooked on their music. That act goes by the name Blue Honey and is comprised of husband and wife Troy Brooks and Kassie Jordan.

The Nashville based duo have the perfect blend of country and blues (hence their band name) in their music and we can’t get enough of it. Their latest song “Angels Come Home” is a tearjerker, however, the song has REAL meaning and can relate to any type of love.

CS Country caught up with Troy and Kassie recently to hear more about their musical journey, working with each other, and what’s to come from them in the new year. Lucky for us, we’ll be getting more music from Blue Honey soon, as the band says it will be a “fun and exciting” year for them.

“We’ve got a new single in the wings and an EP following,” Troy and Kassie told us. “We’ve really put our heart and soul into these new songs and tried to really stay true to the sounds we love.  So 2018 will be a really fun and exciting year for us.”

Take a read at our full Q&A below and visit the band’s website BlueHoneyMusic.com for more details.

CS Country: Can you tell us about how you two met and started your musical journey together?

Blue Honey: “We met when we were both still working on our solo projects. Our bands played a lot of the same places and people kept telling us we should meet, that we both had a lot of the same humorous stage banter (laughs).”

CSC: What inspired your duo name Blue Honey?

BH: “We were trying to think of a name for a while, and then one night on a delirious road trip heading to a gig somewhere it just came to us. We were trying to think of something that sounded a little country and a little bluesy. Blue Honey it was!

CSC: There are lots of duos out there in country music. What makes you stand out from all the others?

BH: “I think Troy’s lead guitar playing definitely makes us stand out.  And I feel like separately, our vocals are pretty strong, so together they’re that much better.  We think we compliment each other well (or at least we hope so!).  And we absolutely love writing music together. We both have Blues and Motown backgrounds so that shines through in some of our songs, which makes us a little different I think.”

CSC: In addition to being a duo, you’re also husband and wife. What’s it like working together?

BH: “At first, we were scared to mix work with pleasure. But when my guitar player was out, Troy would fill in and it was so fun.  And sometimes I’d fill in as a 5th piece in Troy’s band. We got such a bigger response together that we just agreed to try it ’til it doesn’t work. And it’s still working, 4 years later! We have a pretty strong musical bond and an even stronger friendship and love, so we’re very lucky that it’s been so easy to work together and not get sick of each other (laughs).”

CSC: You have a song out right now called “Angels Come Home” – can you tell us about the track?

BH: “We wrote “Angels Come Home” with a couple very talented friends of ours, Nathan Meckel and Britton Cameron. We all sat down and decided to write something true to me and Troy as a couple, something that we could sing to each other wholeheartedly and feel every word. Then we got to thinking that this song could be relatable to any kind of love, like a soldier coming home to his family. And that is what inspired the music video.”

CSC: Can we expect new music from you in 2018?

BH: “Absolutely! We’ve got a new single waiting in the wings! And an EP following. 2018 is going to be a very exciting year for us.”

CSC: What’s one thing you want to achieve in the new year?

BH: “Always looking to move forward and reach more and more people with our music. We are hoping our new music will reach new fans and build our musical family even more!  We hope that our fans like the direction we are going.  We’ve really put our heart and soul into these new songs and tried to really stay true to the sounds we love.  So 2018 will be a really fun and exciting year for us.”

CSC: Since we are Celeb Secrets Country, can you share a secret (fun fact) about each other that our readers wouldn’t know about you?

BH: “Troy is a great dancer, but only when he’s had a couple whiskey drinks.  Kassie was on Ed McMahon’s Star Search when she was 12. We both like to do impressions of people, and we are a little obsessed with Snapchat.”
