Newcomer Carter Winter is off to a good start in Music City!

Taking the No. 2 spot on the iTunes chart with his sophomore album Temptation released late last year, the singer-songwriter also just premiered his first music video for “Skylines” on CMT, and just performed his fourth CMA Fest this past June in Nashville, TN.

Celeb Secrets Country sat down with Carter to chat all about the new music in store, life as an Ohio native in Nashville, and what big plans the future holds over these next few months.

Take a read at the full Q&A below and make sure to keep up with Carter by following him on Instagram @carterwinter.

Celeb Secrets Country: You just had your first music video release Skylines’  premiere on CMT. Can you talk a little about that?

Carter Winter: “It’s a really cool experience to make a first music video. We made it out in LA and it was cool of CMT to pick it up and start playing it.”

CSC: You just recently released your album Temptation. What’s your favorite song off the album?

CW: “They’re all favorites for different reasons. The Temptation album came out November 2nd and it was No. 2 on iTunes for a little while, right behind Miranda Lambert which was super cool. We would’ve had No. 1 had she not decided to release her record the same day, but we were happy with No. 2 sitting behind Miranda.”

CSC: Can you tell us the writing process for the title trackTemptation’?

CW: “It kind of just starts with the idea that you’re just one decision away from a completely different life at all times, and what is that temptation worth to you? That’s where that song comes from.”

CSC: I saw on your Instagram that you’re releasing new music soon. Can you tell us about that?

CW: “I signed my first label deal about 8 months ago or so, and I’m excited to work with them on a new project and get some music out.”

CSC: You’re an Ohio native. When did you come out to Nashville and how’s it been living here so far?

CW: “It’s been cool. I go back and fourth and I still live in Ohio, but we’re on the road so much with touring I don’t think it really matters where you leave from. I actually first came here to Nashville in 2008. This is how delusional I am; I had some CDs that I made with some songs that I wrote in 2008 and I was like, ‘I’m going to go to Nashville and I’m going to get a record deal this weekend. And then 11 years later I get one.'”

CSC: As far as summer goes, do you have any big plans coming up?

CW: “We have a lot of stuff coming up and a lot that I’m excited for. A lot of my friends and family are like, ‘hey where’s your next show?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t know. Go to my website just like I do. I have no idea where I’m going to be at this week. I’ll figure it out when I get there.’ But it’s just carterwinter.com with the tour dates. I performed at a festival in Illinois with Ashley McBryde and Kane Brown and I was super excited for it.”

CS: Being a rising artist, what do you want fans to know about you?

CW: “If you want to know anything about me as an artist, I have a record called ‘Some Kind of Fire.’ If you listen to that song it will tell you everything you need to know.”

CSC: Can you tell us what that song is about?

CW: “It’s just a song I wrote about what I wanted to do with music and where I wanted to go. If you listen to it you’ll figure it out.”

CSC: Since we’re Celeb Secrets, can you tell us a behind the scenes secret of the making of your new album that fans wouldn’t know just by listening?

CW: “I take a lot of pride in writing songs and creating things from start to finish in all aspects of art. In this next project I’m taking some outside songs, some songs that I didn’t necessarily write every word to, but that I relate to and that I really really like. So that’s a cool thing about this album. I detached myself just a little bit from the writing side and try make songs I relate to my own.”
