Celeb Secrets Country: Do you have any funny stories from performing live recently?
Boo Ray: “Yeah, I sure do. We were playing this real hard core honky tonk an hour outside Nashville the other night. Can’t tell you which one so as not to incriminate anybody. But we got there to set up at 9pm and folks were already partying pretty good. When we started at 10 the place was packed and the crowd was well lubricated and pretty wild. We were supposed to play from 10pm to 2am. A little after 11pm we played “Redneck Rock & Roll” and the joint just went crazy. Shoot, we stretched it out for more than six minutes with extra solos and hit the ending of the song real big and loud and drew it out for another minute. We paused just long enough to drink some water and catch our breath and this group of rough looking customers started yelling “Play it again! Play it again! Play it again! They came up to me and started getting real insistent. It was kinda annoying if you know what I mean but they just wouldn’t back off of it. I finally got fed up & turned to the band and said “Let’s just play it again.” We did and before we finished there was a fight being escorted out of the door and everybody was just blasted. That same group of yahoos came up and demanded “Redneck Rock & Roll” again. At this point it was just absurd and we went ahead and played it again. By the time we finished the 3rd rendition of “Redneck Rock & Roll” in a row, the manager of the honky tonk had to shut the place down. His clientele had just gotten too wild and he had to close the joint for the night.”
