Celeb Secrets Country: You released an album, Sea Of Lights, in 2016. How has that affected your musical career thus far?
Boo Ray: “Before “Sea Of Lights” I suppose it was mostly SiriusXM Outlaw Country listeners, music aficionados and people who wear Olathe Boots that knew who I was. Turns out that there are a lot more people hungry for singer/songwriter and guitar pickin’ music. This album has reached a bunch of people and I reckon I’m on the map now. ”
Celeb Secrets Country: Do you have a favorite song off of Sea Of Lights? If so, which one and why?
Boo Ray: “Tough question because I play most of the songs off that album every night. Each song on “Sea Of Lights” does it’s job well and means a lot to me. But “Redneck Rock & Roll” just hit radio as the 3rd single and we just shot a cool video for it too. So I’m pretty partial to “Redneck Rock & Roll”. I love playing that guitar riff and singin’ that song.
Just gimme an ol’ two-step
a little hillbilly waltz
a big block Monte Carlo
with the paint fallin’ off
It’s got to be country
It’s got to have soul
Strip it down to the bone
Just gimme that redneck rock & roll
It’s a bunch of danged fun and hits real hard.”
Celeb Secrets Country: How would you describe your sound for someone who hasn’t hear your music yet?
Boo Ray: “My cowboy and trucker buddies talk about my sound being “country as heck” and “real down home”. Other people often say to me “I don’t even like country music but I like your music.”… I suppose it’s a southern singer/songwriter sound and a guitar pickin’ sound.”
Celeb Secrets Country: Who are your biggest musical influences?
Boo Ray: “I’ve had many conversations and been asked that question often since “Sea Of Lights” came out. A lot of people say they can hear the Jerry Reed in my music. I’ve been told that I have a Dwight Yoakam and Randy Travis vocal style. I think that Macon Georgia sound is part of my DNA and you can hear The Allman Brothers in it too.”
