CS Country: Your song “Tough Guys” has been a HIT. How was that affected your career so far?

Caroline Jones: “It’s been a great journey. I’ve been writing and producing and recording music for several years now as an independent artist. ‘Tough Guys’ is the first song that we’ve sent to country radio and it’s getting a great reception. I’m really grateful, playing lots of shows, and doing what I love. I’ve been really blessed to do what I love for quite a few years now. But it’s really fun to be accepted into the country community, which I’ve respected and admired for so long.”

CS Country: What do you think it is about your voice that makes you so unique compared to other country artists out there? It’s so different!

Caroline Jones: “Thank you so much! That’s a great compliment to me because my favorite artists have really unique voices. I was classically trained in opera when I was younger and I grew up listening to a lot of R&B and classic rock. I think all of those influences along with my love for country and country vocalists – especially the sensibilities of Hank Williams, Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton – hopefully that has all reflected in my voice. But I do have a lot of diverse influences.”

CS Country: How often do you write songs?

Caroline Jones: “I write whenever I feel inspired. I would say I go through periods when I write everyday and then I go through periods where I won’t write for a couple weeks. And…that’s not the standard Nashville 9 to 5er, but for me, that works really well. To just write when I’m really inspired, and to just kind of allow it to come and tap on me and say ‘write me’. So that’s what I wait for.”

CS Country: What is one of your favorite songs that you’ve written?

Caroline Jones: “One of my favorite songs that I’ve written is called ‘Country Girl’. It’s gonna be on this upcoming album and it’s the story of my family, my upbringing, and it’s just – I can’t really put into words how much that song means to me and what a deep place it came from. When I wrote it, I cried for like three days. (laughs) It’s probably the most special song to me.”
