CS Country: How would you describe your sound for someone who hasn’t heard you yet?
Chelsea Bain: “I would say, you know, it’s melodically pop-country, but I’m a rock singer vocally. I always say because I don’t consider myself a singer, singer. It’s not necessarily pretty all the time and flourishy, but I just kinda yell things out and if it works – great. (laughs) It’s kind of pop with a rock-feel to it. My best friend always describes it if Joan Jett did country music. I never know how to describe myself, but that’s how she describes it – I’m gonna take her word for it.” (laughs)
CS Country: What’s your favorite aspect about your single ‘Drinkin’ Alone’?
Chelsea Bain: “The fact that it’s about drinking. (laughs) I think a lot of people think that I’m sort of alcoholic or something because of the song, and I wanna be clear – that’s not the point of the song. The point is you’re just supposed to be able to enjoy having a drink with a friend or whoever. I just love it ’cause it’s fun and it’s kind of quirky and playful – I love that it’s playful – because I’ve had so many songs that are just intense, even if they’re uptempo. This one definitely has some intense qualities to it, but it’s supposed to be fun and just, ‘you know, we’re just having a drink and it’s fun’ and I love that – because it’s the kind of person I am.”
CS Country: What are you looking forward to most about this year?
Chelsea Bain: “Just seeing what happens with this new music. I wrote all of these songs with one of my best friends amongst a few other writers. My producer Jordan Sapp, also wrote several of them with us. They’re just very me – they’re very honest – they have all my little quirks and stuff in them that a lot of my music in the past doesn’t show. So I feel like finally – fans, the audience, can listen to this EP, this single, and really feel like they know me now.”
