“For people to hear my lyrics and think they’re not alone, that’s my goal.” -Courtney Cole

CS: Before we talk about your music, I want to get to know you better – are there any shows or songs you’re currently obsessed with?

Cole: “Where do I begin, there are a lot of shows I’m obsessed with! I love New Girl, Blacklist, Scandal, The Last Man On Earth, and my absolute favorite is Jane The Virgin. It’s really hilarious and sarcastic which is just my style.”

CS: How about Zayn’s Pillowtalk? I remember seeing that on your Instagram.

Cole: “Oh my gosh, that’s my favorite song right now! It’s so sexy and wonderful. It’s the kind of song you jam to with the windows down because it sets a chill mood. I didn’t even know that was the guy from 1D until a week ago!”

CS: Who would you love to collaborate with in the future?

Cole: “Golly, there’s so many! I would ultimately love to do a collab with Shania Twain. That’s the ultimate for me. I would love to collab with Faith Hill as well. I grew up listening to her all the time. In the pop world, I would love to do a Meghan Trainor or like Adele, that would be so fun.”

CS: Who inspired you to be the artist you are today?

Cole: “Definitely Shania Twain, Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, and even all the way to Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. Musically, they’ve all inspired me big time. This may sound really cheesy, but my mom has been my biggest inspiration just because she’s the one who has allowed me to do this and allowed me to be myself. She has always supported everything that I’ve done and has always been right there by my side. She’s my biggest inspiration, hands down.”

CS: Was your mom a singer/musician as well or just really supportive?

Cole: “She never was a singer, she was just really supportive. I mean she would sing in the car with me and we would jam out, but that’s it. She was a stay at home mom and always took care of me and my brothers. She was just the ultimate supporter and the ultimate mom. We couldn’t have had a better mom.”

CS: That’s awesome. So let’s talk about your music! Your lyrics are always uplifting and inspiring. Do you have a favorite lyric or song you’ve written to date?

Cole: “Yes! As for my lyrics, the one that gets me the most are the “Drunk” lyrics. When I’m having a bad day, I remember the feelings I had when I first wrote the song. It was such an “OMG life is so wonderful at the end of the day” kind of feeling. So when I’m having a bad day, I can always go back to the song and remember that feeling. It just puts my day in a different perspective. I always try to be positive and look at life at a happy perspective.”

CS: I completely agree! I was actually singing that song at work the other day and my boss looked at me like “What?” And I had to explain that it was just a song!

Cole: “I love that! There was this one time when I was babysitting my niece and it was right before the song actually came out and I was writing “drunk” on our side-walk in chalk so I could post it on my Instagram. And I look over to my 6-year-old niece and she has her chalk and she’s writing “drunk” all over the sidewalk. I’m thinking, ” Oh no, I’m literally the worst aunt on the planet right now!”. She was writing it everywhere!”

CS: So what is the process like behind your music? Were you drunk when you wrote “Drunk” ?

Cole: “OMG, no I definitely was not drunk. We were sitting in a cabin in the snowy mountains for a writing retreat. I was looking out at a beautiful view and we were just thinking, “OMG, are we really doing this right now? We’re writing songs for a living and having the best time of our lives,”. My friend just started putting down a beat and we wrote the song in like 45 minutes. It just flowed out of us.”

CS: What’s your favorite song from your EP?

Cole: “I love them all! That little group of songs is a collection of where I was at the time so they’re all really special to me. But I think my favorite is going to have to be “Ladylike”. I’m the kind of girl who’s not afraid to own up to her mistakes, be quirky, or say just how things are in life. That song is really true to me and it’s kind of how I grew up and my outlook on life – not to take life too seriously.”

CS: You’re currently touring the US, right? How is that going?

Cole: “It’s going amazing! I think touring is my favorite part out of all of this. I love being on the road, meeting new people, and meeting people who have been supporting me the past couple years. Being able to put a face to a name is so amazing. We have a lot of shows booked from here until fall so I’m really looking forward to getting out there and meeting more people!”

CS: What has been your favorite show so far?

Cole: “Oh my gosh, that is so hard to pick. The last show I did was in Tortuga and that was amazing because I love the beach in general. It fits my vibe and so to be able to play a show while looking at the beach and drinking a margarita was the ultimate! But I have to say that the tour with Miranda Lambert last fall were the best shows of my life.”

CS: How was touring with Miranda Lambert?

Cole: “She’s the coolest! I’ve looked up to her for a really long time. I remember driving down the streets in Louisiana, listening to the Revolution record and just having it on repeat. Her songwriting and her relatability is everything I could ever want to be as an artist. So for her to allow me to tour with her was seriously one of the biggest accomplishments in my career to date. I’m just really thankful for that.”

CS: Will you be attending the 2016 CMA Music Festival?

Cole: “I am! I’m actually working on getting some shows and appearances booked!”

CS: Can we expect a performance from you?

Cole: “Absolutely! Expect away!”

CS: For our readers who have yet to hear about you, why should they listen to your music?

Cole: “My music is fun-loving, it appeals to people who are free-spirited, and it’s something people can relate to. It will help them understand themselves a little better. For people to hear my lyrics and think they’re not alone, that’s my goal. That’s what I hope people can get out of my music.”

CS: Are you working on any projects at the moment?

Cole: “Always! I’m always writing music and always trying to come up with something creative. So everyone should definitely be expecting new music in the future!”

CS: Since we are Celeb Secrets, do you have any hidden talents you can tell us about?

Cole: “I don’t know if it’s a talent, but I’m really good at yoga. I can do some pretty cool yoga moves!”

CS: what’s your favorite yoga pose!

Cole: “The side crow!”
