Vincent Mason just dropped a surprise track this 4th of July weekend, and it’s yet another fire song to add to your Sad Boy Country playlist.
Introducing himself to the world by wearing his heart on his sleeve and giving listeners a glimpse of his emotional, yet relatable heartbreak journey, the rising Interscope/UMG Nashville/Music Soup songwriter and artist continues the momentum with the release of his new song “Heart Like This” today (July 5).
Written Mason with Cary Barlowe and Jaxson Free and available wherever you stream music, “Heart Like This” carries a raw, vulnerable quality that instantly conveys those feelings through the lyrics and melody.
“The sing along aspect of this song made it stand out to everyone who heard it, that was a main reason why we decided to release it,” Mason says of the track in a press release. “It really just feels on brand, it’s the perfect representation of the songs I want to put out.”
Earning himself an honorary “one to watch” title in February with his breakout single “Hell is a Dance Floor,” Mason has been catching the attention of many fans and industry vets around town, as the viral tune has over 30 million streams and counting, landed him a record deal with Interscope/UMG Nashville/Music Soup, and helped him secure slots on tour with big names like Luke Bryan, Gavin Adcock and Kameron Marlowe.
“That’s what did it,” the Roswell, Georgia native tells Celeb Secrets Country host Juliet Schroder backstage during CMA Fest 2024 in Nashville last month. “We had a lot of people kind of talking to us for a little bit, but that was the one that got people to pull the trigger. I’m really blessed and I thank God.”
And while Vincent loves all of his songs and hope they make it somewhere on the charts, the 23-year-old never knew it was going to be the reason where he is today, as in his mind, “just felt like everything else that we’ve ever written and put out.”
“I realized it could have been something when I was looking at the Spotify numbers. I woke up one morning and saw it, and the team and everybody we were like, oh s**t, this might be the one,” he recalls with a smile. “I feel like God wanted me to do this, it’s cool. I mean, I didn’t know when or how it was gonna work out, but you know, we just try to do our best every single day.”
“Heart Like This” is just a taste of what’s to come from the rising star, as he says he’s been in the studio with “really great songwriters” who are helping him finish what he’s already been working on. “We’re working on stuff right now to try and get our before tour,” he reveals.
As for what story he’s trying to tell? Vincent confirms he’s still in his “sad boy country” era as he plans to “keep hitting on what worked” in his last EP and “Hell is a Dance Floor” and “try to make a bigger project out of that sound and direction.”
While he continues to gain more recognition for his music, Vincent will also be spending the upcoming months on tour including several shows with Luke Bryan and the entirety of Gavin Adcock’s fall tour.
