Celeb Secrets Country: How would you describe your sound for someone who hasn’t heard you yet?

Kaylee Rutland: “Traditional country vibe and a bit of today’s cutting edge sounds mixed in.”

Celeb Secrets Country: Who are your biggest musical influences?

Kaylee Rutland: “There are actually so many I’ve been inspired by and learned from and a few that definitely have had a huge impact on me from early on.  First, Reba, she’s an amazing, iconic, genuine and talented entertainer – I have such admiration for her.  And, Carrie Underwood being so open about her faith is inspiring.  She’s beautiful inside and out, I’m a forever fan.  Then, Sara Evans who really was one of my first inspirations into country music with “Born to Fly”, I dreamed of being just like her and was so moved by that song. Lastly, Jamie O’Neal is incredibly talented, an amazing mentor and has always helped me with my sound.”

Celeb Secrets Country: Tell us what it was like to film your new music video for your hit single, “Pick Me Up?”

Kaylee Rutland: “It was an amazing experience! We filmed at a car farm in Lebanon, TN (The Tinsley Farm) filled with a cute, old gas station and hundreds of vintage cars. Kristin Barlowe directed the video and she’s absolutely brilliant! Everyone on the set had so much fun we didn’t even seem to mind that it was less than 30 degrees out and we were outside most of the day. You can check out my behind the scenes video on YouTube for an inside peek on what the entire day looked like!”

Celeb Secrets Country: What made you choose “Pick Me Up” as your single?

Kaylee Rutland: “I definitively wanted my next single to be something really upbeat and positive, and typically whenever I write I like to share my ideas with family and friends to see what they think. They were encouraging and thought it had a good mood type feel which resonated with them, so I was excited to release it as my single.”

Celeb Secrets Country: What can we expect to see from you the rest of this year?

Kaylee Rutland: “I’ve been writing a lot of new material with the plan to release an EP later this summer. Both of my latest releases, “Pick Me Up” and “More of That” will definitely be included on that, and I plan to have new songs that I hope y’all will love too! So, you can expect new music and more videos in the future. Oh and on a personal note, I’ll graduate college in December – wohoo!”

Celeb Secrets Country: What has been your biggest accomplishment over the past year?

Kaylee Rutland: “Really it’s the momentum that my new music has had. Since releasing “Pick Me Up” back in November it’s gained traction on Radio Disney Country, GAC, CMT and The Country Network (It’s still just so surreal to me). I’ve also been able to meet new people and introduce my music to them. It’s been an exciting new year and I’m so thankful for all the opportunities that I’ve had.”

Celeb Secrets Country: Can you tell us what it was like to tour with RaeLynn?

Kaylee Rutland: “One day I was listening to her on the radio, then the next I was meeting her backstage before I was about to open for her in NY. I love RaeLynn’s music and I sing along to it, so it was extremely exciting and humbling!”

Celeb Secrets Country: Do you have any funny stories from any recent live performances?

Kaylee Rutland: “It was during a performance when my base player, Mike, tripped on a cord and fell flat on his back. It was crazy because he didn’t even skip a beat and he just kept playing while he was laying on the stage until the song was over. We didn’t even realize what had happened until after the fact. He was okay; it was just a simple trip. We’ve all definitely had our laughs about it now.”

Celeb Secrets Country: Since we are Celeb Secrets Country, do you have any secrets or fun facts about yourself that you would like to share with us?

Kaylee Rutland: “A fun fact about me is that I can recite all 66 books of the Bible in less than 30 seconds.”
