Smithfield Talks New Single “When You’re Gone” and Hint at New Music

Smithfield just dropped a new single “When You’re Gone” last week and they talked all about it when we saw them at CMA Fest earlier this month.

Trey and Jennifer are known for their unmatchable harmonies that always seem to take us by surprise. “When You’re Gone” definitely exemplifies their musical talent and diversity, which is the reason why they are one of our favorite country duos out on the market right now.

“The name of the song is “When You’re Gone,” and it was a title I brought in one day when writing with friends. My friend had this cool bluesy guitar lick he was doing, we started writing some lyrics around it,” Trey explains to Celeb Secrets Country. “Then I had the thought of when you’re gone, like when you’re drinking. We were trying to describe this perfect, kind of tipsy, buzzed girl, and how no one can believe that this guy is with her. So it came back to me about how “When You’re Gone,” and we like it because it’s a different take on a title that has been heard a lot.”

Listen to “When You’re Gone” for yourself below… you won’t regret it!

“When You’re Gone” is the first taste off the duo’s upcoming EP which is set to be released later this fall.

“Something we loved about our first EP is that it had our pop and rock roots, but it also had ode to country music. That is something we always want to keep in our music, we want to show our influences. Each song is going to be a little snapshot of everything. We have some songs that are very lyrical and deep, but we also have some fun songs that you would play on a Friday night,” Trey says about the upcoming record.

“But what’s different about this EP is that it is a little more progressive, production wise. This new single has trumpets and a really cool lead electric guitar, as opposed to Trey being the acoustic leader on most of the songs. It does have some differences for sure, but it does have that same Smithfield element,” Jennifer adds.

Fans can hear some of Smithfield‘s new material live at the many music festivals they will be playing all over the country for the rest of the year. Be sure you keep up with all things Smithfield by following them on Twitter at @SmithfieldMusic!
