Celeb Secrets Country: Can you tell us about your debut single “Reasons?”
Jillian Jacqueline: ““Reasons” was the first song I wrote. I wrote it last year in the summer and it was the first one I wrote that really felt like it represented the entire project. It’s very honest, it’s pretty biographical. I was going through a breakup of 5 years at that time and it really was just kind of hinting at we hadn’t really moved out at that point and I was just kind of telling the story of those moments of when you’re like “why are we still here?” “Why are we staying?” It was my take on how to be completely fair and unbiased. When you’re apart of a relationship the other person also has their story so I wanted to write something that felt really objective and not one sided. I also love how the song feels really fun still. I sing it and it feels like I’m having a good time but it’s super sad and the subject is about a relationship ending. I’m really proud of it and I think it was really cool that everybody on the team that I’m working with was into putting it out first because it was pretty bold as an opening statement but it seems to be received really, really well. Spotify has been super supportive too, so that’s awesome.”
Celeb Secrets Country: What can we expect form your new project? what can you tell us about it?
Jillian Jacqueline: “You can expect a lot of honesty. For me, this is my first album. I kind of describe it as the moment I stopped trying to steer my artist direction one way and I just let it be what it was. There’s songs that come up on this album that I was really afraid to write and to put out. I think it just feels — I hate to use the word raw — but it just feels authentic. It feels surreal that I’m able to say the deepest, darkest things and have them in a song. It feels a little bit soul-baring and naked, but it’s also very liberating. I would say the album is just honest.”
Celeb Secrets Country: Honesty really reflects on your fans!
Jillian Jacqueline: “Yes. As a country artist I grew up with country music and it’s interesting to feel like I’m saying things for my age group and for the genre that people haven’t said. I mean these are just things that I’m living through in my life but I don’t come from a super southern background either. So I think that probably lends itself to myself feeling a little bit more edgy, or crashed just because I’m from Pennsylvania and I grew up in New York. I just have that sort of mindset when I write and it comes through the songs a little bit.”
Celeb Secrets Country: What do you think makes you so different from other artists that draws people to you and makes you want to listen to you and just be there with you?
Jillian Jacqueline: “I wouldn’t say I’m different; I just think I’m myself and I think everybody is so unique. If you really get down to knowing yourself and knowing who you are, we are all so different in so many ways. Of course there are general things in life that we all feel, but if you’re able to pull out the very integrate things of your personality it’s just who you are. So I think people just feel a connection with an individual. Trying to be fully themselves and honest.”
Celeb Secrets Country: What do you see yourself doing in the next five years?
Jillian Jacqueline: “I have all the big goals. I would love to go to the Grammys and possibly be nominated. I’ve always had those dreams even when I was a little girl. I think touring is the one thing that my mind is really set on and I’m super excited about that just because I’ve been in Nashville making this album for — I mean we’ve made the album this year but I’ve been writing for the album for 6-7 years technically thats how long I’ve been here. I think just wanting to get outside of Nashville and feel the music connecting with people is what I’m most excited about.”
